City of Austin files counter-petition to secede from Texas
The petition for Texas to go off and become its own country already
has more than 60,000 signatures. Impressive. But in a twist, the capital city of
Austin has filed a petition to secede from Texas and remain part of the Union
should that happen. This is officially getting out of hand. The petition states
it is "entirely feasible for Austin to operate as its own state," and adds that
remaining in the Union "would protect [its] citizens' standard of living." The
drafters might want to go in and correct a few typos to be really taken
seriously, but as of this writing, the petition has received more than 5,000
votes out of 25,000 needed for a White House response.
