Marijuana is still the most popular
illicit drug on the planet, with as many as 224 million users worldwide,
according to the UN's World Drug Report. A red-eyed 14.1 percent of
Americans enjoy a toke, while the Micronesian Republic of Palau boasts the
highest number of stoners per capita, with almost one-in-four people blazing one
up for their tiny Pacific island nation. Interestingly, in Uruguay, where they've recently decided to all
but legalize its use, the rate is far lower -- just 5.6 percent. And while its
cultivation is difficult to measure accurately, given the number of small,
backyard growers, global production is believed to be on the rise, with the
product becoming more potent. So, all in all, the future's looking bright for
the world's stoners. If they can bring themselves to open the
drapes.
