Panty liner commercial slammed for daring to say (gasp!) 'vagina'
Most commercials for feminine hygiene products dance around what
they're advertising with pleasant euphemisms for ladyparts and splashes of blue
mystery liquid. But not a new commercial that dares to actually use the word
"vagina." The advertisement — which depicts a naked young woman, her body
artfully hidden by flowers, talking frankly about the female body — attracted
complaints immediately after it premiered on Australian TV on Sunday night. Its
makers have defended the commercial, arguing that research shows women are sick
of hearing "euphemisms or diminutive terms" to describe their bodies. "It shows
women have nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed about and should be confident
of their body," said campaign spokeswoman Debbie Selikman. [Source]
