Married women up their booze intake, men cut back, says study

Ever joked your marriage has driven you to drink? If you're a woman, chances are it has. Researchers from several different U.S. universities found men tended to pull back on drinking after getting married, but the reverse was true for women, according to the total number of monthly drinks reported in survey and interview data. Even though men drank less when they were married, the study found that no matter what their marital status was, males drank more overall than females and concluded the increased boozing of wives was because they're trying to keep pace with their husbands (as opposed to drowning their sorrows). Here's to a little friendly competition then — hic!
