Bovine beauty pageant puts critics in bad moo-ds
Beauty met beast in one Chinese beauty pageant. In surely the only
pageant in which calling a contestant a heifer is considered a compliment, last
weekend, the dairy industry in Shanyin County in the Chinese province of Shanxi
held a contest. Only, the contestants were 200 cows, which were judged on the
basis of “looks, milk and pedigree.” Critics had a, well, cow over the inclusion
of eight (human) female models, who wore bikinis and masks while posing and
milking the cows, as seen in the gallery above. Said one editorial: “Beautiful
girls have far greater ability to attract attention that the milk cow
contestants. How do you think that makes the cows feel?”
